Principal's Page

Dear Munhall Families,

On July 1st I made my official transition to Munhall Elementary and I am honored to be the next instructional leader of this great learning community.  Throughout this week and next, I am having the opportunity to meet with each staff member of Munhall in order to build relationships and grow my knowledge of the building, culture, and students.   As I learn more about our school, it is energizing to see the commitment to student growth that is present among the Munhall community.

I come to you with twelve years of experience as a 6th grade language arts teacher, with ten of those years at Haines Middle School in District 303.  For the past two years I served as principal of Lincoln Elementary School, where I cemented my ideals of what constitutes a high functioning school.  I am deeply committed to fostering a safe learning environment in which all students will be met with rigorous classroom experiences and given the caring support needed to be successful.  It is the focus of the Munhall staff to create an atmosphere where a growth mindset is fostered.  Students need authentic opportunities to take risks, problem solve, persevere, and collaborate.  Strong partnerships between parents and staff are a critical component to your child’s academic growth.  Proactive communication is always encouraged, and I have an open door policy with you as parents.

On a personal note, I reside in Crystal Lake with my wife, Kristen, and two children.  My son, Ian, turned five last month and will start kindergarten in the fall.   My wife and I frequently wonder how will he do on the bus?  How will he connect with his teachers?  Will he forge strong, positive friendships?  These questions I have as a father help guide me in identifying what is truly important in my role as principal.  My daughter, Brynn, recently turned two and attempts to be an equal partner in everything her older brother does.  As a family we enjoy visiting the beach at Crystal Lake, canoeing, going to the library, utilizing our membership at the Brookfield Zoo, and taking our beagle, Maggie, on evening walks.

It is an honor and privilege to continue my professional journey in Community Unit School District 303, especially at a school like Munhall.  The long standing traditions, supportive parents/community, and dedicated staff help create a student-centered approach to learning that has been entrenched in the Munhall culture.

I look forward to getting to know the Munhall students and their families.  I can be reached via phone at 331-228-2600 or by email at Jarrod.Buxton@d303.org.  If you are in the neighborhood, our summer office hours are Monday-Thursday 7:30-3:00 and 7:30-11:30 on Fridays.  Please stop in and introduce yourself and take a look around.

Respectfully,

Jarrod Buxton, Principal

Mrs. Patricia Townsend, Administrative Assistant to the Principal

Mrs. Allyson Taylor, Administrative Assistant
